Day 35: Running in The Peak District
Today I got a train to Edale in northern England with my friend Brad and we ran the first part of the Spine Race course. It was a cold but beautiful day and we enjoyed the fantastic scenery. We practiced navigation with both the compass, the maps and the electronic GPS and I realized just how much of a challenge it will be trying to find and stay on the correct route path during hours of darkness in the race (16 hours of darkness each day!). Any concepts I had that I might run most of the race went out of the window!
For nutrition, I brought a bunch of Nanu energy bars and it worked a charm again. Overall, all systems seem a go go for the race. I experienced pain niggles in my left Achilles/ankle which is an area I will work upon in coming weeks when I begin the taper for the race.
